In my 2022 report to Hailsham residents, delivered by leaflet in January and published here, I mentioned that I had been pressing County Highways officers to resurface substantial parts of the Ersham Road and to address the state of the South Rd Bridge, indicating that I anticipated action in the spring and summer. After some weather and utility-work related delays, both these significant interventions are now imminent and are planned to take place in early July Details of the Ersham Rd. works are outlined below
Resurfacing works on the Ersham Rd., between the junction with South Road and the entrance to Hailsham Cemetery, are scheduled to commence Monday 3rd July lasting until Friday 14th July 2023.
From Monday 3rd July to Friday 7th July there will be two-way temporary traffic signals in place between 7am and 7pm whilst related works such as gully adjustments and kerbing take place.
From Monday 10th July to Friday 14th July – Ersham Road will be closed overnight to through traffic between 7pm and 5am whilst surfacing works are completed.
There are no plans for weekend working during these dates.
If you need vehicle access, please discuss this with the team on site to see if this is possible. Please bear in mind there will be delays whilst the area is made safe.
Highways contractors will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please try to avoid parking in these locations as it will delay the works.
All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
We are informed by the Highways team that properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as these works can be a bit noisy.
There is no doubt in my mind that these and similar works on South Rd. will cause significant short term disruption to traffic flow, but the end result should be a much better carriageway condition on these key sections of road in southern Hailsham.
