The temporary Emergency Active Travel Scheme proposal, which would have closed vehicle access to the High Street, was well intended, but under pressure of time from Central Government permitted too little local consultation and risked having the reverse outcome to that intended. I was pleased that County Officers & the Lead Member agreed on Monday 16th August to my request to give the Town Council the final say on the proposals (see video link from 2:01:40: https://eastsussex.public-i.tv/core/portal/webcast_interactive/502909?force_language_code=en_GB). Once the Covid crisis is over, we can revisit a more thought-through and long term cycling and walking strategy for the Town which will accommodate local traders' concerns.
